Maison Royale tapestry depicts a castle surrounded by green foliage, seen from a columned terrace with a red drape, a pitcher, a violin and fruit in the foreground. The design comes from the Royal Residences, a set of tapestries made at the Gobelins for King Louis XIV toward the end of the 17th century.
They were designed by Charles Le Brun, a leading painter and designer of his day, whose work the king admired so much that he named him First Painter to the King. This jacquard woven piece brings that courtly grandeur to a dining room, library or formal living room. Note: the largest option shows a wider version of the scene, with two columns on each side.
