Made in France

From a set of tapestries called the Royale Residences made at the Gobelins for King Louis XIV towards the end of 17th century. They were designed by Charles Le Brun a prominent painter and designer of the late 17th century. Le Brun’s work was admired by many, especially King Louis XIV, who eventually made him the First Painter to the King. This jacquard woven tapestry depicts a castle surrounded by green foliage contrasted by a foreground of a columned terrace with a red drape, pillowed pitcher, violin, and fruit.
Note: The largest available size of 110"W x 58"H is a wider scene that has two columns on each side. See here.
