This European jacquard tapestry pillow cover is called Josephine. These flowers were on the upholstery fabrics of the Empress Josephine (1763-1814) in Compiegne. The horn of plenty forming a "J" in the middle of the pattern makes a double allusion to Josephine and to prosperity. The freshness of the colors, the delicateness of the peach blossoms, the variety of flowers and leaves used in the border echo Josephine's passion for botany. The presence of the laurel is explained in a salon of pageantry.
